2012 Air Force College Football Season Preview

Tcu Football Jersey, The Air Force Falcons came into 2011 with a lot of expectations, but it all came crashing down after they had a disappointing 7-6 record. They were expected to contend for a Mountain West title alongside Boise State and TCU, but their 16 point loss to the Horned Frogs and the 11 point loss to the Broncos crashed them right back to Earth. The 1 point loss to Toledo in the Military Bowl put an explanation point on a rough season.

Head coach Troy Calhoun enters his sixth season at Air Force, compiling a 41-24 record in that span. The tough 2011 campaign the Falcons experienced last year was an anomaly as he has gotten his players to exceed expectations more often Tcu Football Jersey than not. 2012 may be another tough year for the Falcons as they return only six starters, which is the fewest in the Mountain West.

Offense

The Falcons run an offense that is very similar to the other military schools which is the triple option. They averaged a pretty good 34.9 points and 455 total yards/game in 2011. Those numbers marked the highest they had in quite some time. With just three starters coming back on offense, those numbers will almost definitely take a hit.

The Falcons lose a key piece in their lineup with the departure of four year starting quarterback Tim Jefferson. Connor Dietz takes over the starting role and while he\'s more than capable, I doubt he can replicate the production of Jefferson.

Asher Clark leaves as the school\'s No. 2 career rusher with 3,594 yards and his productions will surely be missed. Senior FB Mike DeWitt and senior TB Wes Cobb should handle the bulk of the carries in 2012.

Air Force losses their top two pass catchers from last season in Zack Kauth and Jonathan Warzeka. Junior WRZ Ty MacArthur, senior WRX Mikel Hunter and freshman TE DJ Miolen step into starting roles.

The offensive line loses three starters, including first-team All-MWC RG AJ Wallerstein. This unit has two starters back in senior RG Jordan Eason and senior LT Jason Kons, who earned third-team All-MWC honors last season. With 39 career starts returning, the O-line is right on par with last year in terms of experience.

Defense

Air Force gave up their worst numbers since 2005 when they allowed 28.4 points and 286 total yards/game last season. The Falcons lose five of their top seven tackles from a year ago, as a result, these team should once again experience a down year on this side of the ball.

Injuries to key players last year were the main reason they gave up a whopping 220 rushing yards/game and 5.0/carry. It was Tcu Football Jersey their worst numbers since 1988. They lose five of their top seven defensive linemen from last year and their only returning starter is sophomore NG Nick Fitzgerald. The starters for 2012 will be sophomore DE Joseph Champaign and senior DE Nick DeJulio.

The Falcons must replace three starters at linebacker in first-team All-MWC ILB Brady Amack, ILB Jordan Waiwaiole and OLB Patrick Hennessey. They only have one starter returning in senior OLB Alex Means, who earned second-team All-MWC honors last year. junior OLB Jamil Cooks and senior ILB Austin Niklas should get the starting job after gaining valuable experience last year.

The secondary loses three starters in first-team All-MWC FS Jon Davis, second-team All-MWC CB Anthony Wright and CB Josh Hall. Their lone returning starter is junior FS Anthony Wooding. Junior CB Chris Miller, junior CB Steffon Batts and junior SS Jay Fullam could end up starting despite their inexperience.

Mountain West Prediction - 7th Place

The Falcons are near the bottom of the Mountain West because they have the fewest starters coming back. They also lose many of their Tcu Football Jersey best players. It will be extremely tough for Air Force to finish in the top half of the MWC especially since they have to face Wyoming, San Diego State and Fresno State on the road.
